Nobody loves a critic…
I can’t get over how mediocre the Spoon show was last night. I’m trying to figure out if it was just me or if the show really was just average at best. First of all, I was missing a Wilco show to be there, that has to have something to do with it right? Then there’s the starting time for the show. Start playing at 11:30? If you’re going to give us our money’s worth the show is going till past 1:00. That’s fine for a weekend, but weekday? You’re charging us an arm and a leg for these shows, some of us have to wake up and go work you know. BTW, they went on at 11:30, I knew Wilco would’ve been done at 11. The show started with me knowing that I could’ve seen both shows.
The show itself was just ok. The only member of the band that did anything on stage was the lead singer, which isn’t all that out of the ordinary for an indie rock band. But its late damnit, don’t bore me to sleep. Also the show was pretty short. I was at home shortly after 1. That’s impressive when the main band doesn’t go on till after 11.
Whatever. Spoon is still a good band. But not a band that you have to see live. Speaking of great live bands, Arcade Fire has just blown me away this summer. Saw them in Austin and last Sunday night at Roy Wilkins. There are 7 people in the band, and added 3 for the tour so there’s 10 people on stage. And all of them are switching instruments all the time and running around the stage. Maybe I’m not giving Spoon a fair chance, because after Arcade fire any normal live show is pathetic.
Atmosphere tickets are already gone Will have to see if craigslist can come to the rescue.
Next big show coming up? Ike Reilly at first ave on Nov 22nd. Of course I have about 5 shows before that, but I said next big show… pay attention people.
